Websites vs. Blogs: Is there a Clear Winner

Should you build a traditional static website for your business or should you be working from a blogging platform like Wordpress? Who's winning the battle for online supremacy, the blogs or the websites?

There really isn't a clear winner. Different situations call for different actions. While WordPress (the one blogging platform I'd recommend) has come a long way in terms of its functionality, customization levels and presentation options, there are still times when a static website makes more sense.

For some, security considerations, ease of use, load times and ownership of existing tools will make setting up a website with HTML a better choice. While WordPress has grown into an impressive, full-featured content management system, there are situations that beg for a regular website.

This site, for instance, works like a charm. It was built with Site Build It, which offers some great construction tools and added benefits in addition to hosting and domain names.

At one point, I was much higher on traditional static sites than I was on blogs. I believed that the stability and proven profitability of websites made them a clear winner over blogs.

The advances in blogging - especially in terms of WordPress plugins over the last few years - have me singing a somewhat different tune.

When you can use a plug-in like "ReviewAZON", which will create instant ecommerce sites in a matter of a few hours, it's hard to argue against the power and flexibility of WordPress! Blogs have their advantages.

There really isn't a winner in the websites vs. blogs fight.

In fact, I don't think there needs to be a fight at all. I'd recommend a combination of websites and blogs. With unlimited hosting and domain names available for next to nothing, it makes perfect sense to utilize both and use them to gather more traffic.

They both serve you well as a platform for making money. Both are cheap and easy to set up. Blogs have good flexibility and websites are built on strong foundations. The platform you chose should be determined by the needs present, for any serious Internet marketer.
